grooming you cocker

as i'm sure you are aware, cockers have long silky coats, ( solid cockers have a much thicker coat , than parti coloured, so may require more grooming). special attention should be paid to the ears, feathering on the legs, and under their armpits , where the hair is prone to matting. daily brushing should start from day one of getting / taking your cocker home with you and is a must to keep the fur looking at its best, this is also a great time for bonding with your puppy and dog, and great for looking out for anything like lumps ect.
also in summer months pay special attention, to grass seeds, which can work into the coat and skin and can cause infection.
also clean the ears daily, and use a good ear cleaner (like epi otic), once a week, to stop ear infections/ ear mites, as the cockers ears hang long at the sides of the head, and air cannot cirrculate, and again cockers can be prone to ear infections and ear mites.
cockers can be bathed, but don't over do it,as you will strip the coat of the much needed oils, you may need to bath them slightley more often in winter moths to remove the dirt and mud after a walk, and be cafeful when bathing that you don't get water down into the ears.make sure your puppy / dog is completley dry, and not in any drafts or the cold after a bath.

a cockers first trip to a grooming parlour / dog groomer is recommended at around   6 months of age, then evry 7-10 weeks depending on the coat and how quickly it grows, you will soon know when your cocker requires another visit to the groomers !!.

a cocker puppy needs regular handling to get it used to being at a grromers, and also good for when you take your puppy to a vets, as the first thing a vet does is touch face, ears, paws ect. so the sooner you get your puppy used to this the better, and easier it is for your vet and groomer.
you need to touch face, paws ect daily.and also nice to give your puppy a quick feel of the paws , ears, to check for grass seeds after a walk.
also don't forget, your puppy   / dog has teeth too, and these need to be cleaned daily too, to prevent, tartar build up, and problems with teeth and gums, do use a dog toothpaste and NOT human toothpaste !.
